dictyBase Help: Single Page Format

Contents

Description

The Single Page Format presents the same information available from the Locus Page, but arranges it sequentially on one long page.

Page Contents

Resources available on the Single Page Format are listed in the "Contents" section at the top of the display. These include all resources available either directly from the Locus Page or a single click away from the Locus Page. In some cases, the resource results were deemed too long for the Single Page Format, and only a portion are displayed here.

Organization & Navigation

The Single Page Format display is divided horizontally into several sections, one section per resource. The title of each section is displayed in the blue bar at the top of the section. The resource sections are arranged sequentially, in the same order that they are listed in the "Contents" section (e.g. "Names and Identifiers" is the first section and "Literature Guide" is the last section). You can reach a specific section either by clicking on the "Contents" resource listing or by scrolling down to that section. There are two navigational buttons in the top right hand corner of every section: clicking on the "TOP" button will return you to the "Contents" section at the top of the page, while clicking on the "Next" button will take you to the top of the following section.

Help Documentation

The "Help" button in the top right hand corner of each section will take you to a help document that specifically addresses that resource. In many cases, the same help document is used for both the Locus Page links and the Single Page Format sections. However, some help documents do not apply to both the Single Page Format and the Locus Page. The "Help" descriptions that apply only to the Single Page Format are listed below.

Names and Identifiers

The Names and Identifiers section gives the gene name (and indicates whether it is a standard or a reserved name). It also gives the systematic name, any alias names, the feature type (ORF, cDNA, tRNA, etc.) and the dictyBase ID (a unique identifier used in dictyBase).

Phenotypes

The Phenotype section contains information about mutants (e.g. null, over-expression) entered by one of the dictyBase curators. The information in this section depends on availability in the literature.

Sequence Retrieval

The first "Sequence Retrieval" sub-section presents options for sequence retrieval which include DNA sequence (with or without introns) and predicted protein sequence.

The second, "Sequence analysis tools" provides access to dictyBase's BLAST server and pastes the sequence of this gene directly into the BLAST resource.

The third, "Sequence from other databases" sub-section lists databases that store sequence information for that gene. The sequence ID is a link directly to that site.
